Although at Exeter Cleaning we clean commercial premises, we know how important – yet how challenging it can be to keep on top of your housework at times. So, to help you on your mission to get your house spick and span, we have made a list of bad habits to avoid when keeping your home clean and tidy.
- Wearing shoes indoors – The bottom of a shoe can hold dirt and other unwanted items that could end up on your floor. Not only that, but your shoes also hold bacteria and germs you will spread around your home by not removing them.
- Dusting in the wrong order – Dust first when cleaning, top to bottom. Then when you move on to vacuuming you can get rid of all the dust that has fallen to the floor.
- Hoarding – Do you have lots of unnecessary items piled up around the house? If you’re not using it – get rid of it! This applies to mountains of paperwork, the draw full of “bits” and even old clothes.
- Leaving the dishes – It doesn’t take long to load the dishwasher or scrub the plate you’re finished with. Leaving dirty dishes piled up attracts bacteria and mould, in turn, creating a bad smell!
- Not making the bed – Leaving your bed unmade in the morning looks untidy! A task that only takes minutes makes such a difference to the look and feel of your home.
- Leaving used towels lying around – Hang your used, damp towels to air dry. Leaving them lying around will create a bad odor and not only that damp is a breeding ground for germs!
- Ignoring the little things – the small blob of toothpaste on the edge of the sink, the crisp packet that fell behind the bin. These small things will take less than a minute to rectify and will make such a difference to your home. Don’t ignore them!
- Using your cleaning products incorrectly – Firstly, are you using the right products? These don’t have to be too harsh, cleaning products with lots of chemicals can be damaging to your home and your health. Are you using too much of the product? Make sure you read the directions to use these products appropriately and safely.
- Not using the right tools – Are your cleaning clothes clean? Make sure you use a clean cloth to prevent the spreading of germs and cross-contamination. Also ensure you change your cleaning cloth regularly throughout cleaning, for example, do not use the same cloth to clean the kitchen as you did the bathroom!
Let us know how you get on by making these small changes!
