Overwhelmed by a messy home? Don’t know where to start? We’re here to help!

We like to call it unorganised rather than messy, as messy has too many negative connotations and you shouldn’t feel bad about letting a few household chores slip. We know how an untidy home can be overwhelming and the idea of getting around to clearing it up can be stressful, so we have come up with a few helpful tips to support you in getting your home back in order!

  • Do little and often – do not overwhelm yourself with mammoth tasks of say, sorting 5 rooms in 5 hours. This will only leave you feeling more overwhelmed, and the pressure you put on yourself will only leave you feeling more deflated about the job at hand.
  • Make lists – writing a list will instantly make you feel more organised and in control of the task ahead. Write down everything you need to do, tick off the jobs once you’ve completed them, and feel satisfied when you start making even the smallest amount of progress.
  • Where to start? – now you have two options here… Some people say start in the ‘worst’ room and get it out the way. But our advice would be to start in the room you visit most often or the room that gets used the most. So, for example, you use the bathroom throughout the day and so do visitors, so I would prioritise this room while you have your most enthusiasm for the sort out and clean up!
  • Try not to get distracted – allow yourself a little tea break here and there and use this time to zone out and distract yourself from your chores. When your tea break is up, get back to it! Put the phone away, turn the TV off and complete your tasks!
