Tips for cleaning your microwave!

Cleaning your microwave can be one of those awkward jobs you keep putting off. However, it doesn’t have to be a lengthy task if you follow these useful tips, written by us here at Exeter Cleaning.

Cleaning a microwave can be a simple task if you follow these tips:

  1. Remove any loose debris: Start by removing any loose food particles or debris from the microwave. Wipe the interior with a dry cloth or use a soft brush to loosen any stuck-on food.
  2. Create a cleaning solution: Mix a solution of equal parts water and vinegar in a microwave-safe bowl or cup. The vinegar helps break down grime and eliminate odors.
  3. Microwave the cleaning solution: Place the bowl with the water and vinegar mixture in the microwave. Heat it on high power for about 2-3 minutes, or until the solution comes to a boil. The steam generated will help loosen any food splatters or stains. You can add slices of lemon to the solution to create a fresh scent, lemons also have antibacterial properties!
  4. Let the steam work: After heating, keep the microwave door closed for a few more minutes to allow the steam to work on the interior. This will make it easier to wipe away grime later.
  5. Wipe down the interior: Carefully remove the bowl, as it will be hot, and use oven mitts or a cloth to protect your hands. Take a damp cloth or sponge and wipe down the interior surfaces of the microwave, including the walls, ceiling, floor, and door. Pay extra attention to any stubborn spots and be sure to clean the turntable as well.
  6. Clean the door and control panel: Use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner or a mixture of water and mild dish soap to clean the exterior surfaces of the microwave, including the door, control panel, and keypad. Avoid getting excess moisture into the control panel area.
  7. Remove and clean the turntable: If your microwave has a removable turntable, take it out and wash it with warm, soapy water. Dry it thoroughly before placing it back in the microwave.
  8. Clean the accessories: Clean any additional accessories that came with your microwave, such as a microwave-safe rack or steamer, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  9. Deodorise: If there are any lingering odors, you can place a bowl of baking soda or a few lemon slices inside the microwave and leave it overnight to absorb the smells.

Remember to consult your microwave’s user manual for any specific cleaning instructions or precautions. Regular maintenance and cleaning will help keep your microwave in good condition and ensure your food stays fresh and odor-free.
